The Webster school district Art Department has been a strong presence in the local community for a long time. For many years, Webster High School’s AP Art class (under the tutelage of Bill Stephens) would mount a show where all works of art were created specifically around a theme and would be for sale to benefit a local charity.

When conceiving of this year’s Webster Thomas High School AP Art class show with my students, I thought it would be a great idea to pick up this old tradition. If they were interested, students (and a few of us artist-teachers) chose to take photos around the city of Rochester and do drawings from them, showing the love that we have for the urban landscape of our city. Some elected to honor beloved business or favorite places. Others found hidden moments – beautiful architectural elements or aged and worn structures that many people would drive by and miss.

All drawings are shrink wrapped and mounted on foam core (thanks to Rochester Picture Framing). They are available to purchase at the opening and then throughout the month. All proceeds will go to The Child Advocacy Center of Rochester (formerly Bivona). This is a place that has had an impact on some of our students and we thought that it was a meaningful way to give back.
