Raw Water and Empty Closet Magazine Release Party
Gallery Q
100 College Ave., #100
Feb 7, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Out Alliance and Gallery Q present the opening of Raw Water by Giessmann, a Canadian visual artist and writer who explores trauma, identity, and memory, and the release party for the newest issue of Empty Closet Magazine. Meet the artists, writers, and featured subjects of the month and pick up a cover poster or your free copy of Empty Closet. Giessmann’s exhibition RAW WATER explores AIDS and queer histories looking back to the previous generation’s experience of the crisis in the 1980s and 1990s to his experience of AIDS in the age of PreP. Geissmann says, “Inheriting a legacy laden with grief lacks the same clarity…Like deep water, the ’80s and ’90s are alluring and unfamiliar. Open water envelopes like the past does, prompting a saturation that seems inescapable. I am drowning in an ocean of meager decades, desperately filling my lungs with fluid, hoping that sinking will reveal something that remains unclear from the surface.” Free Admission. Light refreshments will be available.
