R. G. Miller: Truth in Painting (An Afternoon of Survivor Stories)
Rochester Contemporary Art Center

Sep 6, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Join us for a First Friday reception for the film, R. G. Miller: Truth in Painting (An Afternoon of Survivor Stories).

The brush strokes of artist Gary Miller express his experience as a child inmate at the Mohawk Institute residential school, a.k.a. the mush hole. A few survivors from the last generation of the Institute returned for a one day installation of his art to connect with his work and each other. The images, housed in the former dining hall, serve up memories of mush, starvation, and innocence destroyed. The canvases and conversations bravely take us on a journey of then and now with hope for the future.

This film is presented alongside the exhibition R. G. Miller: Tsi Non:we Entewaha’hara’ne / Our Path Forward
