Project Space Opening: Wall+Paper by Evelyne Leblanc-Roberge
Visual Studies Workshop
31 Prince St.
Dec 5, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Hovering between the finite border of the real and the fictional, theatrical and mundane, spontaneous and directed, Leblanc-Roberge’s work confounds the viewer’s expectations of realism by creating manipulated scenes where narratives are compressed, compromised or suspended. She uses trompe l’oeil and camouflage techniques, double-takes and shifting point of views as a method for destabilizing vision and making viewers conscious of their vision as an activity where the whole body is involved. The high-resolution images are crisp but nothing is clear.

Leblanc-Roberge will be using the project space at VSW as a laboratory for a site-specific piece. She will also be presenting a new project titled Wall+Paper.

Evelyne Leblanc-Roberge was born in a small coastal village in Québec, Canada and pursued her studies in Montreal, Hong Kong and Alfred, NY. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Art at the University of Rochester.
