Natural Abstractions: Drawing and Photography by Don Burkel and Jim Thomas
First Unitarian Church
220 S Winton Rd.
Sep 6, 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Longtime friends Jim Thomas of Victor, NY and Don Burkel of Batavia, NY are displaying their art together in an exhibit at the Williams Gallery of the First Unitarian Church of Rochester. Thomas, a retired professor of sculpture and design at RIT’s College of Art & Design, will be exhibiting abstract oil pastel drawings. These works are based on his observations of natural formations found in this region’s landscape settings of lake shores, trails, and the Erie Canal. Exploring form and color, he brings a special emotional strength to his abstract imagery. Burkel, a retired Business Improvement District manager for the city of Batavia and avid photographer, will be exhibiting color photographs taken from locations in New York and coastal areas of Maine. His colorful abstract compositions are a result of focusing on the microcosm within landscapes rather than the larger more traditional views of our natural environments. This exhibition continues through October 14. Admittance is free.
