Theme for April 1 – April 23: Nana Paintings

I have been painting Arianna, my only granddaughter, since she was 2; before that I had never painted a portrait, even though I had been painting for 27 years. I was frightened of portraits. It took me two years of looking at that beautiful face to give in to my need to try and capture the spirit I saw emanating from her. Now, I can’t stop! I have painted her more than 75 times. She called herself Nana, and some of those paintings are straight portraits; some are based upon my composite photos (of her and some of my other artwork) and some are pure fantasy. My canvas, my muse, my sunshine, Arianna is my favorite model for any sort of painting I want to do that expresses not just her feelings but mine. We bond, connect and share our souls. There will be 16 paintings on display in my one-room gallery that changes exhibits every two months. Sixteen paintings and five large photographs may not sound like a lot, but I really like to paint large canvases, so it fills up a room fast! Most of the paintings and all of the photos will be available for purchase.

My name is Jodie Marie Anne Richardson Traugott and I use all my initials as my galley, business name and website, jm-ART.com
By the way, she calls me Bama, not grandma. Yes, she made that up too!

I’m a part of the Central Creatives at the Piano Mall, at 349 West Commercial Street, East Rochester.
Enter through the red door between the Weaving Arts Guild and Penn Fair Golf, towards the left of the mall. Then just follow the signs to the second floor; I am in the first suite on the right after you exit the stairs or elevator, #2700 which I share with Sylvia’s Art Spot. There’s plenty of free parking. Covid masks are still recommended. Thank you for your cooperation.
