Pittsford Fine Art’s Featured Artist for the month of May is Brenda Cretney. She is calling her month-long exhibit “All Creatures”, which will include portraits of animals and animals in their environment. Brenda’s fascination with animals began at her grandparents farm in Hamlin, NY. She was in awe of their percheron draft horses. Eventually Brenda had her own horse, Big Bills, a friendly quarter horse with a % brand on his backside. For 20 years Brenda and Big Bills rode trails all over New York State.
Brenda Cretney lives in Brockport, NY where she went to college and raised her three children. Brenda taught elementary school at Kendall Central School for 30 years. Those years were full of family, renovating an old house, and teaching.
When Brenda retired she began painting with watercolor because they have such vibrant colors. Brenda attended watercolor classes at the Memorial Art Gallery, many artists workshops, and competed in juried art shows. The competitions have resulted in many rewards including a couple Best of Shows. She has signature membership in 5 art clubs: RAC, NFWS, CNYWS, BWS, PWS.
Brenda’s proudest accomplishment is when she paints an animal and it looks back at her from off the paper with a glimpse of its personality.
