Our next show is Urban Observations: In Memory of Betsy Phillips. In tribute to Betsy Phillips, a beloved founder of Image City Photography Gallery and a cornerstone of the Rochester Arts Community, we proudly present this exhibition in her memory. Betsy, who spent her career as a dedicated caseworker for Monroe County Child Protective Services, found her true passion in the world of art and photography. Her abstract works, celebrated for their unique perspectives, draw from man-made and urban environments, capturing the subtle interplay of reflections, shadows, textures, and the passage of time and light on everyday objects. As Betsy once said, “Our thoughts are impacted by our surroundings, but are not true reflections of what we see and hear.” This statement resonates through her work, inviting viewers to look deeper into the ordinary and find new meaning.

For many years, Betsy curated Image City’s 13 annual exhibits, bringing her sharp eye for detail and creative vision to each show. Her talent for graphic design left an indelible mark on the gallery’s visual identity. Beyond Image City, Betsy was a valued member of the Artists Breakfast Group, RoCo, and the ARENA Art Group, where she contributed not only her artwork but also her design skills.

This memorial exhibition showcases Betsy’s legacy, highlighting her dedication to the arts and the community she helped shape. Her gentle nature, thoughtful insights, and artistic contributions will be missed but forever remembered through her work. We invite you to reflect on the lasting impact Betsy made on both art and the people around her.

Also featured are works by John Kosboth, with Partner Gil Maker exhibiting in the Neuberger Gallery. David Braitsch begins his three shows as Visiting Artist.
