They Who Swallow A Fly – Positive Exposures – Down, To Earth
Flower City Arts Center
713 Monroe Ave.
Aug 2, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Join us from 6 – 9pm for the opening reception of three exhibitions!
“There once was a someone who swallowed a fly/Why oh why’d they swallow the fly?/(I guess she’ll die).” “They Who Swallow A Fly” is a collection of cyanotype textiles depicting a marriage of flesh and bug created by Devin Gray Hull during their Photography & Digital Arts Residency.
“Positive Exposures: Faces of Change in Niagara Falls” highlights folks striving to make a positive impact in their hometown through James Abbondanza’s wet plate portraits. In conjunction with the exhibition, Abbondanza is offering a four-hour Tintype Workshop on Saturday, August 24. Space for the workshop is limited and pre-registration is required.
“Down, to Earth” features work Jacob Dambra and Terry O’Brien created during their Ceramics Residency. Dambra’s work uses animal and figurative imagery to discuss queerness, religion, and relationships, while O’Brien strives to emphasize the materiality and age of clay in his functional pottery.
All three exhibitions will be displayed until August 31.
We look forward to seeing you at 713 Monroe Ave!
