Seana Marie Lanias presents “Hoʻomaha,” a multi-media senior thesis art exhibition featuring quilts, paintings, and 3D objects displayed on the walls. The exhibition delves into the theme of rest, exploring not only physical rest but also mental and emotional rest. As a mixed-race Native Hawaiian woman, Seana’s artistic practice dives into her identity’s impact on her experiences with the world. She discusses coping with present challenges faced by Native Hawaiians during US occupation, managing life outside Hawai’i, navigating generational trauma and mental health, and exploring her femininity.

Drawing inspiration from Queen Liliʻuoklani, who coped with adversity by creating a quilt during her imprisonment, Seana incorporates elements of repetition, meditation, reflection, and journaling into her artwork to soothe her mind. Each piece in the exhibition serves as a window into Seana’s personal journey of understanding rest and its significance in her life. The reception will also feature a short live performance, adding another layer of depth to this thought-provoking exploration.
